WASHINGTON—House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) today talked about gratitude and civil society in remarks at the National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast.

Following are Speaker Ryan’s remarks, as prepared for delivery:
Good morning, everybody.

This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

If you don’t mind, I’d like to offer a prayer of my own.
"This breakfast is a national tradition because prayer is a part of our national heritage. It all goes back to the Declaration of Independence. We believe our rights come from God, and our job, as officeholders, is to protect those rights. So it is only natural we should ask for His guidance as we seek to do His will."
