WASHINGTON—Today, the House Appropriations Committee introduced legislation to fully fund the president's initial request for resources in response to Hurricane Harvey. House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) released the following statement:
"Families and communities affected by Hurricane Harvey have a long road ahead, and the House will be with them every step of the way. The president has made clear Texas and Louisiana will have the resources they need, and this package is our first step of keeping that promise. As we continue to pray for the victims of this tragedy, I want to thank the president and the members of the Texas and Louisiana delegations for their leadership. They should all know that help is coming. May we be guided in the coming days by the example of the everyday citizens and first responders who have shown such courage in the face of devastation."
