MCALLEN, TEXAS—House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and a delegation of House lawmakers from southern border states toured the Rio Grande Valley today to observe border security operations. The delegation began the day with an aerial examination of the area on helicopters, followed by a horse patrol demonstration and a Border Patrol boat tour. After a visit at McAllen Station, Speaker Ryan also met with local leaders to learn more about the challenges they face in their communities along the southern border. Upon the conclusion of his tour, Speaker Ryan offered the following statement.
"When you see with your own eyes the many challenges facing our law enforcement professionals along the border, it gives you even greater respect for the work that they do day-in and day-out. But more tools and more support are needed for them to do their jobs effectively. Congress is committed to securing the border and enforcing our laws, and together with the Trump administration, we will get this done."
