WASHINGTON—The House Republican Steering Committee today recommended that Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) be named chairman of the House Budget Committee.
Rep. Black has served as interim Budget Committee chair since January 3, 2017, when Dr. Tom Price, the new Secretary of Health and Human Services, stepped aside to focus on his confirmation process.
“Diane Black has devoted her time in Congress to tackling the big challenges, from patient-centered health care to pro-growth tax reform,” House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) said. “Diane has already hit the ground running as our interim Budget Chair, and we could not be more pleased to recommend her to succeed Dr. Price. Her experience and commitment to solving problems will serve the committee and the country well in the work ahead.”
This recommendation will be presented to the full House Republican Conference on Thursday for official ratification.
