This morning, Speaker Ryan participated in The New York Times’ TimesTalks series with Deputy Washington Editor Jonathan Weisman to make the case for historic tax reform. The speaker argued that a more simpleaffordable, and competitive tax code will create American jobs and grow our economy:

“We want America to wake up on New Year’s Day 2018 with a new tax system. And we really believe if we get a new tax system with tax reform, we can achieve lasting three percent or plus growth in this country. And I think it’s really hard to get three percent growth without it. The difference between two or three percent growth is trillions of dollars. It’s wages getting increased. It’s better standard of living. More take-home pay. The difference between a tax code like we have now and a fixed tax code—a reformed tax system—is [for] businesses it makes sense to stay in America, to make things in America. It puts us on a better level playing field with the rest of the world. So I see it as an enormous game-changer economically for our country. It’s been since 1986.”
