It’s a busy time on Capitol Hill, making it the perfect opportunity for college students to get a behind-the-scenes look at the speaker’s office. That’s exactly what happened last week, when Speaker Ryan sat down with a group of students from Miami University of Ohio—his alma mater—who are spending the semester in D.C.
Speaker Ryan got to speak with 17 students—two of whom are economics and political science majors, just like he was—about a litany of topics from repealing and replacing Obamacare to achieving other conservative economic goals like tax reform and regulatory relief. Yes, even the Stream Protection Rule was discussed, legislation passed by the House and recently signed into law by President Trump to protect American coal mining jobs.
Speaker Ryan fielded questions from almost every RedHawk at the table and explained what we’re working on here in Congress. It was a conversation that, as evidenced by the photo above, was the right mix of fun and informative. These bright students will surely turn into leaders of tomorrow. And Congress is never too busy to welcome and inspire these students.
